November 13, 2011

November 13, 2011 = the best day EVER. Last weekend Brett and I took an awesome trip to Mystic, CT. It's a cute and quaint little New England town that I encourage everyone to visit if they are up in the Northeastern part of the country. It was the perfect weekend get-a-way with the perfect ending :) But I'll get to that after I explain the rest of the trip!

On Saturday morning we walked around town and did a little shopping, then afterwards we went to the Mystic Seaport. This is a very cool and interesting outdoor living museum filled with boats, houses, and artifacts from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is like Jamestown or Colonial Williamsburg where you can walk around and see how people lived back then. I loved it and would highly recommend going!

The next day we went to an old cider mill where we enjoyed a demonstration of how they make the cider and also devoured some delicious cider donuts and hot cider. After that begins the final/ best part of the trip! We made our way out of Mystic to Stonington Vineyards for an afternoon of wine tasting and a tour of the vineyard.

When we got there we bought a bottle of white wine to enjoy with some cheese and sandwiches we had brought with us. Luckily it was a beautiful, sunny day so we were able to hang out outside for most of the time we spent there. After enjoying a glass of wine, we took the tour and then went back outside to finish our bottle and walk around to explore the vineyard. When I suggested we go for a walk, Brett told me he wanted to wait until we could walk around alone (there was a big group taking pictures in front of all the grapes), at which point I became the slightest bit suspicious. Might I add, I was hoping that Brett would pop the question sometime in the next couple of months, so I was on my guard at this point haha! After the crowd had left we went into the vineyard to take a picture; there was a wine barrel that made for a perfect tripod for a self-timed photo that he set his camera on. The weird thing about the picture was that Brett wanted to take one with his camera. I'm ALWAYS the one taking pictures, so I was getting a little more suspicious, but nonetheless excited that he actually wanted a picture of us on his camera. I later found out the self-timer wasn't working so he settled on putting the camera on video mode (he got the whole proposal on video, so cool!). He came over to me to "take the picture", bent down away from me to "fix his shoe", and twisted around to face me on his one knee. As soon as I saw him on his knee facing me, the tears and "are you serious'?!?" started to flow. He told me sweet things that are now all a blur and then asked me if I would marry him! I asked him if he was serious just one last time and then of course blurted out YES! It was perfect and I have never had a happier moment in my life.

This whole past week has been filled with excitement and well wishes from everyone and it has been such a special time for the both of us. I still keep running the moment over in my head letting the thought that we will be married sink in. I could not ask for a more perfect person to spend the rest of my life with and I feel so lucky! Thanks for all of the congrats and love :) I can't wait to post more about the wedding planning process!
